Antelope Island State Park

Antelope Island State park is about an hour south of our park. It is an “Island” that was explored and discovered in 1845 and named after the long prong horned antelope that were discovered there. It is surrounded by the Great Salt Lake and 28,000 Acres. Along with the famous, antelope, it is home to many other species. The most popular and most visible, are the bison. While driving, you will come across many bison crossing the roads and grazing the grass. During the month of October, there is an even called the Bison Round Up, where horse riders coral the Bison for about a week to rest. This is so the animals can relax and reduce the stress of the year and to prepare them for the second phase. The second phase, the Bison are given a medical check and vaccinations, just to ensure their health each year. There are plenty of biking, hiking, and camping opportunities. If you venture around the far side of the island, you’ll find The Fielding Garr Historic Ranch House. Antelope Island is just an all around great place for families to visit and explore.

Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah. It is most known for being the religious center for The Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter Day Saints. It’s a great place to explore temple square (currently under construction) or the state capitol. You can walk around the city and find a variety of cuisines, places to hike, sports events, and the Hogle Zoo. In the winter seasons, Utah is known for having the best snow in the country. In 2002, the winter Olympics were held in Utah, using the many ski resorts with the area. Within Salt Lake City, there are at least 4 Ski resorts.

Salt lake city has a great night life. You can explore the city and find many places to grab a drink and some amazing food. You can use the motorized scooters or bikes to get from place to place.

Bonneville Salt Flats

West of Salt Lake City, you’ll find a very unique environment and location. You will find the Bonneville Salt Flats, a 30,000 acre natural salt phenomenon that follow I-80. The flats were formed when Lake Bonneville dried up and the salt was left behind.

A huge attraction to the flats, is the Bonneville Speedway, home to many speed shattering records. Hundreds of drivers come to the flats in August to compete in a variety of races, many seek to beat any record possible. The fasted recorded speed is 622mph by American Gary Gabelich with the rocket car Blue Flame in 1970.

The Salt Flats are also a beautiful place for photos and seeing the stars. You can see many groups of people there taking photos either professionally, or for fun. Many movies have also used the moon like landscape as a set location.

A few movies you may have heard;

Dune - 2022, John Wick - 2022, Independence day - 1990, Pirates of the Caribbean - 2007 and many more.

Moab

Moab, Utah is home to two National Parks, One State Park, and a National Forest. The National Parks consist of Canyonland and Arches, and the state park, Dead Horse Point is the state park. Within each of these parks, the La Sal Mountains can be seen almost anywhere. Moab is the land of adventure and for those that live for the desert. People come from across the country to boondock the miles of BLM land. It’s the hub for those who love ATV’s, OHV’S, and UTV’s. The public lands surrounding the National Parks are open for off roading and designated for these vehicles. You can rock crawl at Hells Revenge or cruise on the White Wash Sand Dunes.

One of the many perks of our park, is that we have very large and spacious pads (shortest sites being 70’ long X 24’ wide) for those towing their recreational vehicles.

Moab does have an off season, where most local stores and restaurants are closed for the winter. This would be the perfect time for boondocking and soaking in the gorgeous desert without the crowds.

Capitol Reef National Park

Capitol Reef National Park is somewhat of a hidden gem that’s just 4.5hrs away from us. Not many people know that it even exists. The Capitol Reef area wasn’t discovered until the year 1872. Capitol Reef is home to many amazing and interesting things to explore and discover. You can find pictographs and petrographs that date back to 2,000 years ago. There are also many hiking trails, including backcountry, that are perfect for serious hikers. The small town outside of the park is Torrey, Utah. There you can find great places to eat, but be wary of the off season closures.

St. George

In the East you have Moab, and in the most South West Corner of the state, there is St. George. This is the home of Zions National Park, Bryce Canyon, Snow Canyon State Park, and Sand Hollow State Park. St. George is a college town, home of Dixie State University. You can find about anything to do here, including exploring the above mentioned parks.

Zions is home to the famous Angels Landing hike. A difficult 4 hour hike that includes steep and narrow segments with exposure to long drop-offs, many of which include a chain to hold onto. People from around the world come to hike and take in the breath taking views.

Driving to the other side of Zions, you can continue about 73 miles to hit Bryce Canyon National Park. Another park with unique rock formations that are thousands of years old.

If you want to take a break from the many locations meant for hiking and exploring, you could head to Sand Hollow State Park. There you can find dunes perfect for off roading and a 1300 acre reservoir. The reservoir is available for any water sport, such as, boating, water skis, and swimming. St. George has so many places to explore and should be on the top of your list!

Little Sahara Sand Dunes

As one of the largest dunes in Utah, Little Sahara is the remains of the Sevier River, which once flowed into the ancient Bonneville Lake. Due to the lake receding, the west winds blew the exposed sand into what is now known as Sand Mountain. Sand Mountain is a 700ft tall dune that provides a challenge for those who dare to climb it. The Dunes are a popular place for those who love off-roading. It’s a great place to go camping with the family and ride around in your ATV.
