New Hobbies You Might Start as an RVer

You’ve hit the road, visiting a variety of places, or found your place you are going to be stationary, now what? Sure you probably have a job and every day things you need to do, but what about those moments you are trying to figure out what to do? Are you finding yourself bored of just looking at the new scenery that you have traveled to? There are so many activities you can do to enjoy nature. You can start hobbies that can help you appreciate the surrounding areas you travel too. Here are some hobbies we think you could start doing!

If you are out in nature, whether it’s at a campground or boondocking, there are so many activities you could incorporate into your daily routines. Hiking is one of the more obvious things you could start doing, in pretty much any location you are at. It’s a great way to actually explore new places and get great exercise and fresh air. It may seem like something you wouldn’t be interested in, but while you’re hiking, why not do a bit of wildlife/bird watching? Branching off of learning about the area as you are hiking, this is a great way to check out not just birds, but the wildlife that is common to the area. If your mindset was to start being fulltime to be more one with nature, why not learn about it and see what you can do to help with the conservation? There is a high chance that locals are trying to regrow, repopulate, introduce, etc. natural resources. Conservation is a great way to give back, while using natural resources, especially while boondocking. It may lead you to a new location to explore and learn about. A large part of conservation is trying to regrow vegetation that has been damaged from human use. For example; in Moab, there is a very fragile plant called the cryptobiotic soil crust. It is very important to the ecosystem, yet people step on it not even thinking. A great way to avoid this and becoming aware of fragile ecosystems, identifying floral species is a great hobby to get into! What’s great about these activities is that they encourage you to start reading.

Sometimes living in small space, working on a computer, and traveling a lot can take a toll. Finding time to wind down and center yourself is more important than ever. Meditation and yoga can really help benefit your physical and mental state. It’s an easy activity that you can do anywhere on the road! It also has amazing health benefits that everyone could use!

Living in a small space also brings up the challenge of task you were used to doing in a larger space, such as, cooking! Learning new ways to cook and make meals in a smaller area can be a challenge but also very fun. You can still make those fun and complicated meals that you and your family love so much. You may also learn that simplifying your cooking can help you create healthy eating habits. You may explore new techniques, like cooking outdoors on a grill or with a smoker. Or even trying out new appliances such as pressure cookers and air fryers.

There are so many exciting things you can try when living fulltime in an RV. Whether you are stationary or traveling to new places. We challenge you to get out and start a new hobby!
